Responsible Wool Standard (RWS)
The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is a voluntary certification focused on promoting the welfare of sheep and sustainable land management. It guarantees that wool is sourced from farms that take a progressive approach to land stewardship and uphold a holistic respect for the well-being of sheep, adhering to the "Five Freedoms" of animal welfare.
The "Five Freedoms" are as follows:

Ensured through easy access to fresh water and a balanced diet that promotes health and vitality. -
Freedom from Discomfort
By providing a suitable environment, including proper shelter and a comfortable resting area. -
Freedom from Pain, Injury, or Disease
Through preventative care or swift diagnosis and treatment when necessary. -
Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour
By offering ample space, appropriate facilities, and the company of other animals of their kind. -
Freedom from Fear and Distress
By ensuring conditions and treatment that prevent mental suffering.
