World Environment Day 2022
The theme for World Environment Day 2022 calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet. In late 2021, we worked with Carbon Positive Australia to calculate our freight emissions to date and offset through several reforestation projects. We believe in giving back to causes that achieve better social and environmental outcomes. As Australia is our home turf, it is important for us to do our part and show up as a modern brand who prioritises this beautiful country.

In late 2021, Zulu and Zephyr used Carbon Positive Australia’s business carbon footprint calculator to calculate their freight emissions to date and offset through reforestation projects that the organisation works on. As a company Zulu & Zephyr believes in giving back to causes that achieve better social and environmental outcomes and as Australia is our home turf, it is important for us to do our part and show up as a modern brand who prioritises this beautiful country.

As a brand with a strong connection to the Australian beach culture, the health of our planet, our seas, and our climate have become achingly present in our minds. It began for us back in 2018 when the effects of plastic pollution on our oceans became widely recognised and was the reason why transitioning to biodegradable packaging was at the forefront our sustainability policy. On a personal level, we have come to understand our responsibility and the impact our choices will have on the future of our children.

In recent years we have strengthened our partnerships, choosing to support value-aligned non-profits with a focus on creating the most impact. Our involvement with Carbon Positive Australia was spurred by our desire to offset the transit associated with our 2021/22 Signature & Mini collections. Due to the strain, the global pandemic has put on transport and logistics, we have had to choose to air freight our Signature ECONYL® fabric from Italy rather than sea freight, increasing our carbon footprint. Therefore we decided to offset the carbon dioxide emissions derived from the transit of both our fabric and finished goods. Working with Carbon Positive Australia allows us to combat climate change while restoring degraded land and creating much-needed habitat and biodiversity, and with a project close to home in the Nightcap National Park we can see the direct and tangible impact this is making.

This World Environment Day ask yourself what changes you can make to better the environment?

Carbon Positive Australia is here to help.

As a registered Australian charity they have been restoring degraded land through ecologically sensitive planting for the last 21 years and encourage everyone to make climate-healthy choices that go beyond being ‘carbon neutral’. This World Environment Day they have created a guide that will help you change your daily habits that will benefit not only yourself but the Earth as well. You can download your guide here.

Every year Carbon Positive Australia raises money to plant trees for land restoration, carbon sequestration and for community well-being. They support a range of projects that increase canopy cover and biodiversity and that have positive climate, health and wellbeing outcomes.

Every carbon offset you purchase, every tree you give, every dollar you donate helps them to plant more native  trees and shrubs and build a carbon positive future for Australia.
