OUR IMPACT 2024

Throughout 2024, we proudly donated a total of 4,285 units of apparel, swimwear, and mini styles, valued at $91,156 AUD, to our valued partner, Thread Together.

ABOUT THREAD TOGETHER

Founded in 2012 by Andie Halas, Thread Together was born out of the simple yet powerful idea of donating unsold clothing rather than discarding it. Andie recognized the potential for unsold, new apparel to make a significant difference in the lives of those in need, while simultaneously helping protect the environment by diverting these items from landfills.

Today, Thread Together provides clothing to thousands of people across Australia every week. The organization partners with hundreds of fashion brands, including Zulu & Zephyr, as well as a network of charities, social service agencies, and thousands of volunteers. By keeping clothing in circulation, Thread Together has earned recognition as one of the fashion industry's most ethical solutions to fashion waste.

In addition to our apparel donations, we also contributed 49kg of fabric scraps and unusable products to Upparel, Australia’s leading company in textile recovery and recycling.

ABOUT UPPAREL

Upparel is driven by a strong commitment to protecting and preserving the planet for future generations. Their core mission is to eliminate textile waste from landfills, and every decision they make is focused on having the greatest positive impact on the environment.

By ensuring that each textile item that enters Upparel’s system avoids landfill, the company plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gases and overall waste. Upparel empowers consumers and partners to take responsibility for their textile waste, leading the charge in transitioning the fashion industry towards a circular economy. Their environmental impact is just beginning, and together with their partners, they are shaping a sustainable future for the industry.

GIVING BACK

We are dedicated to supporting charitable causes close to our hearts. Some of the charitable causes we have contributed to include Jeans for Genes Day, Make A Wish Foundation, Alannah and Madeleine Foundation as well as humanitarian donations to Syria and the NSWRFS bushfire relief.

ABOUT KARRKAD KANJDJI TRUST

The Karrkad Kanjdji Trust (pronounced gar-gut gun-jee), or KKT, brings together Indigenous ranger groups, remote communities and philanthropists to address some of Australia’s most pressing social and environmental issues. They take a holistic approach to conservation, weaving together many parts to create a lasting impact across women's employment, climate change, native biodiversity, education, cultural heritage and community sustainability.

Zulu & Zephyr is proud to be supporting the Karrkad Kanjdji Trust’s important work, with a particular focus on women’s ranger projects.

Our support of Karrkad Kanjdji Trust in February 2022 meant a financial contribution of $7500 helped to fund their women's ranger projects, helping to address Arnhem Land's most pressing environmental issues.

ABOUT GIVIT

GIVIT's purpose is to match generosity to real need through an online platform, and change the way people give by inspiring an online network of givers. Their vision is to meet society's need in an environmentally sustainable way.

We also support 1% for the Planet indirectly through the onboarding of new suppliers that have also pledged 1% of their sales towards environmental non-profits such as Grounded Packaging.

By choosing to produce our recycled paper kraft mailers with Grounded Packaging who pledge 1% of their sales to Seabin Project we have removed over 210kg of plastic waste from the ocean in 2020 alone.

OUR IMPACT

Our support of Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network in 2020 meant a financial contribution of $3200 towards funding their climate justice initiatives with a focus on strong culture and commune values.

Thread Together were able to deliver hundreds of new garments to people in need through our gift of new, unworn clothing.

We continue to assist the Northern Rivers community wherever and however we can through Community Service, food donations, clothing donations and raffles.

Since 2021, we have partnered closely with Worn For Good to promote circular fashion as a creative solution to tackling the issues of textile waste. In Australia, 6000kg of clothing is thrown out every 10 minutes, mostly ending up in landfill. What begun as a way to manage excess stock responsibly, our partnership with Worn For Good has engaged our community on social and environmental justice and the ways in which we can positively impact the world.

OUR IMPACT

"Thanks to your support, Zulu & Zephyr has helped us raise a total of  $17,609 for our charity partners. As a small start-up, your contribution has made a significant difference and we never underestimate what this can do for the charities we partner with and the programs they can continue to deliver, thanks to your generosity and involvement.

In terms of Zulu & Zephyr's direct impact to date, if the amount raised was to be donated to one charity alone, you have single-handedly:
  • Provided a hot meal and a safe and comfortable place for a woman escaping domestic violence to stay for 35 nights
  • Provided 35 x home-delivered confidence kits to people undergoing treatment for cancer (Look Good Feel Better)
  • Provided a child with transport to school for 35 weeks in remote areas"
- Sophie Palmer, WFG FOUNDER.

Our latest donation to WFG in March 2022 went directly to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
